Contracting work out to Flowercart - Work Contracts and Work Crews

Work Contracts

Whether the work you need to have done is time-limited or on-going, Flowercart can help you accomplish your work by providing you with contract employees.

To discuss establishing a work contract with Flowercart, please call Lisa Hammett Vaughan, Community Employment Services Coordinator at 681-2349 or better still email her right now, lisahammettvaughan@flowercart.ca

Usually contract employees work on a set schedule. Usually the work will be completed on-site at your place of business; occasionally Flowercart establishes a physical plant elsewhere to complete the work.

Flowercart’s Community Employment Services (CES) Coordinator will negotiate with an authorized agent of your business to determine the business’s requirements for the work to be done and establish the rate of pay. Using a contract template, the CES Coordinator will develop a formalized agreement (contract) with your business, specifying the scope of work, the rate of pay, start and end dates, and so on. The contract is then signed by an authorized agent of your business and by Flowercart’s Executive Director. A client or clients ready for independent employment will be hired by Flowercart to complete the work. Community Employment Services will provide contract employees with appropriate support, supervision and training.

It is our job to ensure that the workplace is safe and healthy for our employees. During the time that we are negotiating the details of the contract with you, we will evaluate any health and safety risks associated with completing the work. We will work with you to address any concerns that might arise. Because contract employees work under the supervision of a Flowercart employee, they will be covered by Flowercart’s workers compensation and commercial general liability insurance while at your work site.

Work Crews

Flowercart can help you accomplish your work by providing you with a work crew. A group of two or more clients, under the direction of a Community Employment Services Supportive Co-worker, will come to your work site to do some agreed-upon work for you.

Some businesses hire a work crew to fill a position that would otherwise be filled by a single employee; others employ the crew to complete one or more tasks taken from several employees’ responsibility profiles. Sometimes the work of a team is simply more efficient than the work of one person; work crews can sometimes fill a need for an employer that cannot be met by hiring one Flowercart client. Usually crews work on a set schedule; sometimes they work on-call.

Using a work agreement template, the Community Employment Services Coordinator will negotiate with you to determine your requirements for the work to be done and establish the rate of pay. Payment is calculated on a piece-rate or a fee for service rate. The cost is calculated using a fair wage, the amount of work to be done and the number of people-hours required to do it. The Community Employment Services Coordinator will clarify with you the scope of the work to be done, the rate you will pay for the work crew’s service, start and end dates, and so on. The finalized work agreement will then be signed by an authorized agent of your business and by Flowercart’s Executive Director. Once the work agreement is settled, a Community Employment Services Supportive Co-worker and a team of clients will come to your workplace at the agreed-upon time to complete the work. Community Employment Services recruits, schedules, and supports the employees in the work crew.

Because our clients work under the supervision of one of our employees, they are covered by Flowercart’s commercial general liability insurance and workers compensation while at your work site.

Contracting work out helps you in several ways:

Top quality work

Your satisfaction is very important to us. During our initial negotiations we will draw out your exact requirements; we will make sure we know your expectations right from the start. Quality control is built in to the work plan.

Cost efficiency

Why pay an executive wage for tasks that do not require an executive? Take tasks out of your higher-paid employees’ responsibility profiles, and assign them to your Community Employment Services contract employees. You will negotiate the hourly rate you pay with the Community Employment Services Co-ordinator. The cost is based on a fair wage, the amount of work to be done and the number of people hours required to do it.

Less HR hassles

No recruiting, scheduling, or supervision of the workers; Community Employment Services handles this for you.

Help with training or re-training - You train one Flowercart employee, our Supportive Co-worker. Once our Supportive Co-worker understands your requirements, s/he will work with you to ensure that the contract employees meet your training standards.

No payroll problems - Flowercart bills you, at the end of each month for the work completed in the month. You only write one cheque! Flowercart pays the workers.

By contracting with Flowercart, you help us with our work, too. Contracts are a vehicle for employing clients who are ready for more independent employment.
