Beliefs
Developmental Model – accepted 1982
We believe in helping people increase competencies by offering growth challenges one step beyond current abilities. Accepting people as they are, the continuum of abilities can be described as progressive or as lateral.
Principle of Universality – accepted 1994
Preamble
Flowercart is a vocational service with a broad range of options. As of this date there are six; developmental services, vocational services (including Bakery and Used Clothing / Woodworking), Community Employment, Partners In Employment Outreach, and Transition-to-work.
Given the diversity of needs and abilities that are present in the large group of people that we serve, it is unreasonable to expect that all of the people in any one of these six options are best served by staying in one option for all of their work life.
Belief
We believe that as a participant/client and/or his or her support identifies a need that is best met in a different option within Flowercart than the one s/he is presently in, and the participant/client chooses to be involved in the different option, we have the responsibility to assist the him/her in accessing that option which best meets her/his identified need.
Some examples of reasons why a participant/client might consider accessing a different service option for a period of time include:
- to have access to resources and experiences not available in the part of Flowercart s/he is presently in
- to apply skills in other areas in order to enhance his/her work life
- to challenge self
- to assess skills and work possibilities in a supported environment
