Community Employment

Flowercart's Community Employment Services exist to:

  • prepare clients for employment - provide or facilitate work experience and training opportunities for clients; increase employability of clients by helping them to acquire or enhance generic work skills, job-specific skills and employment maintenance skills
  • help clients find jobs - provide job search and job placement services leading to jobs which fulfill the clients’ realistic employment goals
  • help clients keep jobs - maintain or increase the success of employed clients
  • provide paid employment for clients
  • promote Supported Employment in Kings County

Supported Employment is Paid Work at Community Work Sites with On-going Support as Required.

Community Employment Services (CES) has tailor-made projects to help our clients to find jobs or work-related training. Our projects include:

CES provides training, such as safety training and adult basic literacy, to increase clients' employability. We offer support to our clients who are employed in the community, and to their employers. We seek work contracts with community employers and, when possible, provide direct employment for clients.

We can provide one-on-one support to people who are successful in getting a job in the community.

We can operate small businesses to create employment, as well as administer work contracts and other community work arrangements.
   
Community Employment Services is mandated to serve adults considered to have an intellectual disability who:

  • demonstrate a desire to work at a job in the community
  • demonstrate potential of being able to succeed at Supported Employment (ability, desire, availability, and adaptability to work), and
  • benefit from employment, or from employment-related work opportunities and/or employment–related training

Community Employment responsibilities include:

  • providing and/or securing supportive co-workers for a client and/or an employer
  • developing employment options for clients including work experiences, work enclaves, work contracts and mobile work crews
  • giving employment-related counseling and training for groups of clients utilizing existing resources, as well as, researching, and securing, new resources
  • providing follow-along support for clients who are stable in their employment situation
  • giving individual employment-related counseling
