Planned Giving is also an option for supporting Flowercart Every Canadian citizen has the constitutional right to pursue work, but not all of us can pursue work easily. At Flowercart we are dedicated to helping adults considered intellectually disabled who live Kings County to become members of the workforce. The Board of Directors of The Flower Cart Society has established a Planned Giving program to ensure the continued innovation and growth of Flowercart. What is Planned Giving? Planned Giving, also known as deferred or charitable giving, means making arrangements to provide a future or lasting gift. There are several ways to make a planned gift: wills, bequests, awards, endowments, life insurance, trusts, and annuities. Careful planning of your gift will allow you to support the future of Flowercart while you receive tax and other financial benefits now. How does planned giving work? Through careful planning, people can leave a substantial gift or legacy to a favorite charity without reducing the size of their estate available to family members. One way to do this is through purchasing life insurance and making Flowercart the beneficiary. Your insurance premiums then qualify for charitable receipts, lowering the net cost to you. The method of giving takes into consideration not only the good of the recipient but equally the good of the donor. Most planned gifts are major gifts, usually from the donors' assets, rather than their income. This means that patrons can make gifts without affecting their current financial circumstances. Planned gifts allow Flowercart to plan ahead. Because far-sighted donors, people like you, have made future commitments, confident plans for growth and development can be made, knowing that money will be available in the years to come. How will my gift be recognized? Whatever its form, your Planned Gift will make a vital difference in helping Flowercart provide jobs and employment-related training to adults considered intellectually disabled who live in Kings County. We recognize the special contributions of our Planned Giving Partners in a way that is most suitable to them and Flowercart. Can my gift be named? Donations to Flowercart may be named to recognize or honor individuals, families or organizations. Memorial gifts may also be made. What are the advantages of Planned Giving? Planned Gifts offer advantages to you and to Flowercart:
What are the different types of Planned Gifts? Endowments allow the purpose of your gift to live forever because the gift you give is invested as capital. With the interest income the capital generates, endowments provide support for a particular purpose on an on-going basis, somewhat like a scholarship. Endowments can be established while you are living and can be set up to honor a special anniversary, achievement or event in your family's history. A family endowment allows your family to contribute as much and as often as it wishes to honour its people or events. Life Insurance offers an attractive way for you to make a substantial donation at relatively little cost. While life insurance may be an important part of your estate planning and may provide security for your family or business, it can also play an important role in your charitable giving. A Gift In Kind refers to the contribution of stocks, bonds, real estate and other tangible assets. A charitable receipt based on an independent appraisal of the fair market value of the asset can be issued to you. Gifts by Annuity may appeal to you if you have accumulated an amount of capital which you would consider donating to Flowercart, but need the annual income that it generates. An annuity allows you to keep the interest income for your lifetime while transferring ownership of the capital to Flowercart, resulting in generous tax advantages for you. "I like the mission and intiatives of Flowercart. They focus on skills, being productive, and the caring heart." Rev. Roy White (Ret.) Friend of Flowercart How will my gift be used? This is up to you. You may decide to make an unrestricted gift to Flowercart or to any of its program, projects, departments or activities. Alternatively, you may decide to designate or restrict your gift to provide support in area of interest, e.g., capital projects. What is my next step? Because donors may only make one planned gift in their lifetime, these gifts require time to prepare. Once you have decided to make a planned gift, you should probably consult an expert. Accountants, lawyers, insurance brokers or agents - there are many people who can help you design your gift so that you fulfill your philanthropic aims while gaining the best tax and other financial benefits. Stephen Healy of London Life acts as our Planned Giving Advisor. He is familiar with the work of Flowercart through his work with London Life and with the Kentville Rotary Club. If you would like, Stephen can act as an Advisor to you as well. The Board of Directors gratefully acknowledges Stephen Healy's commitment to Flowercart and his volunteer help with Planned Giving. May we be of help? We sincerely appreciate your interest and hope that we have provided you with some general information about Planned Giving that has been helpful.
